ChatGPT Ads are now available in Cyprus, so naturally, we wanted to see what the advertising platform actually looks like from inside.
Rather than repeat another announcement about the launch, we started experimenting with ChatGPT Ads Manager ourselves. We wanted to understand how campaigns are built, what targeting options advertisers have, what an ad consists of and, most importantly, what makes advertising on ChatGPT different from platforms such as Google Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads and TikTok Ads.
Our first impression? The platform is still new and there are some bugs, but one feature in particular caught our attention: Context Hints.
For us, this is where ChatGPT Ads start to become genuinely interesting.
If you first want an overview of how the advertising platform works, we covered the fundamentals in our complete guide to ChatGPT Ads, which we published back in February 2026 when advertising initially became available in the US.

ChatGPT Ads Are Now Available in Cyprus
OpenAI began testing advertising in ChatGPT in the US in February 2026 before gradually expanding into additional markets. ChatGPT Ads expanded into European markets in August, with self-service access through Ads Manager subsequently becoming available.
Cyprus is now officially listed among the countries where advertisers can access ChatGPT Ads Manager through self-service.
That means businesses and agencies in Cyprus can create an advertising account and start building campaigns directly through the platform.
For us, however, the interesting part was not simply gaining access. It was seeing how OpenAI has approached advertising differently from the platforms performance marketers have been using for years.
What We Found After Testing ChatGPT Ads in Cyprus
Our initial experimentation revealed a platform that is still relatively simple compared with mature advertising ecosystems such as Google Ads and Meta Ads.
That is not necessarily a negative. ChatGPT Ads are still at an early stage, and the platform will almost certainly develop considerably.
These are the five things that stood out to us so far.
What we tested | What we found |
Platform experience | Still new, with some bugs during our experimentation |
Location targeting | More limited than Google and Meta, but city targeting is available |
Context targeting | Context Hints allow advertisers to describe relevant conversations |
Ad creative | Title, description, image and website |
Minimum daily budget | €15 for accounts using EUR |
1. ChatGPT Ads Manager Still Feels Like a New Platform
The first thing worth knowing is that the platform is still new, and it shows.
During our experimentation, we encountered bugs within the system. This is something advertisers should keep in mind when they first start working with ChatGPT Ads Manager.
That does not make the platform unusable. It simply means we would not currently expect the same level of maturity that advertisers are accustomed to after years of working with platforms such as Google Ads and Meta Ads.
Features, interfaces and capabilities are also likely to change quickly as OpenAI develops the advertising product.
For that reason, we see this stage primarily as an opportunity to experiment and learn, rather than assume that the current version of ChatGPT Ads represents the finished advertising product.
2. Location Targeting in Cyprus Is Still Relatively Limited
How ChatGPT Ads Cyprus Location Targeting Compares
One of the areas where we immediately noticed a difference was location targeting.
Based on the options available during our testing in Cyprus, ChatGPT Ads does not currently offer the same depth of geographic targeting that we are accustomed to using with Google Ads and Meta Ads.
However, advertisers can target cities.
That is important for Cyprus businesses because many campaigns do not need to target the entire country. A business might primarily want to reach people in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca or Paphos.
From our initial experience, the approach feels more similar to LinkedIn Ads than the more advanced location controls available through Google and Meta.
We also found it more practical from a local targeting perspective than TikTok because of the ability to target cities.
For businesses where highly granular geographic targeting is essential, this is currently a limitation to consider. For many nationwide and city-focused Cyprus campaigns, however, there is already enough location control to begin testing.
3. Context Hints Are the Most Interesting Part of ChatGPT Ads
This is the feature that caught our attention.
Performance marketers are accustomed to targeting people using mechanisms such as:
Search keywords
Interests
Demographics
Custom audiences
Lookalike audiences
Job titles
Behavioural signals
ChatGPT introduces something different: Context Hints.
Instead of selecting your audience entirely from a predefined list of targeting categories, you can describe the conversations, topics or keywords where your products or services could be relevant.
There are no predefined Context Hints that you simply select from a list. The advertiser provides the context.
This creates a very different way of thinking about advertising targeting.
What Are Context Hints in ChatGPT Ads?
Context Hints help ChatGPT understand the types of conversations in which an advertiser's product or service could be useful.
Importantly, these are not traditional exact-match keywords.
If you provide a Context Hint, it does not mean your ad will only appear when someone types those exact words. OpenAI explains that Context Hints guide its matching systems by providing additional information about the product, who it helps and when it may be relevant.
That distinction matters.
Instead of simply asking:
What keywords does our customer search?
or:
What interests does our customer have?
advertisers can start asking:
What might our potential customer be discussing when our product or service becomes relevant?
That is a significant change in how we think about targeting.
A Simple Context Hint Example
Imagine that we wanted to advertise web design services.
Traditional Google Search targeting might begin with keywords such as:
web design company
web design Cyprus
website redesign
ecommerce web design
With Context Hints, we can think more broadly about the situations where someone might actually need those services.
For example, the conversation could involve a business owner discussing an outdated website, poor website conversion rates, plans to launch an ecommerce business or difficulties managing their existing website.
The advertiser can describe these situations naturally rather than relying exclusively on a predetermined targeting category.
For us, this is currently the most distinctive part of ChatGPT Ads.
4. Creating the Actual Ad Is Straightforward
While the targeting concept feels very different, creating the actual advertisement is currently relatively simple.
During our testing, the main creative elements we needed were:
Title
Description
Image
Website
The setup is therefore much less complex than some of the campaign and creative configurations available through more established advertising platforms.
But simple does not necessarily mean easy.
ChatGPT creates a different advertising environment because the user is already engaged in a conversation. Advertisers therefore need to think carefully about whether their message genuinely makes sense within that context.
An ad that works in an Instagram feed or Google Search result should not automatically be copied into ChatGPT without considering how and why the user might encounter it.
This is something we intend to experiment with further as we gather more campaign data.
5. The Minimum Daily Budget Is €15
Another important consideration for businesses testing ChatGPT Ads in Cyprus is budget.
For advertising accounts using EUR, OpenAI currently sets the minimum daily campaign budget at €15.
That makes the entry point relatively accessible for businesses that want to start experimenting without committing a substantial advertising budget.
However, €15 per day still represents approximately €450 over 30 days if a campaign runs continuously at that budget level.
More importantly, meeting the minimum budget does not mean that €15 per day is necessarily enough to generate meaningful results for every campaign.
The appropriate testing budget will depend on factors such as the objective, available audience, product or service, conversion value and the amount of data required before making a performance judgement.
ChatGPT Ads vs Google, Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok
Our early experimentation also highlighted just how different the platform currently is from established advertising channels.
It is too early to make meaningful performance comparisons because we do not yet have enough campaign data. We can, however, compare some of the practical differences we encountered when setting campaigns up.
Platform | Targeting strength | Our current observation |
ChatGPT Ads | Conversation context | Context Hints introduce a unique way of describing when an offer is relevant |
Google Ads | Search intent and extensive campaign targeting | Far more mature targeting and campaign controls |
Meta Ads | Audience, interest and behavioural targeting | Much more advanced audience and geographic controls |
LinkedIn Ads | Professional and business targeting | ChatGPT's current location setup felt more comparable to LinkedIn during our testing |
TikTok Ads | Audience and interest targeting | We found ChatGPT more practical for Cyprus city-level targeting |
This comparison should not be interpreted as one platform being universally better than another.
The platforms reach people in different environments and at different points in the decision-making process.
The question we are interested in answering is whether the conversational context available in ChatGPT can eventually create advertising opportunities that traditional platforms cannot replicate in exactly the same way.
Should Cyprus Businesses Start Advertising on ChatGPT?
For businesses interested in emerging advertising channels, ChatGPT Ads are certainly worth watching and, in the right circumstances, testing.
But we would not recommend moving a significant portion of a profitable Google Ads or Meta Ads budget into ChatGPT simply because it is new.
If an existing channel is consistently producing profitable enquiries or sales, there needs to be a commercial reason to change that allocation.
At this stage, we see ChatGPT Ads as an additional experimental channel.
A controlled test allows advertisers to begin answering the questions that actually matter:
How much traffic can ChatGPT generate in Cyprus?
What does the cost per click look like?
Which Context Hints generate the strongest results?
What types of creative work best within conversations?
How does conversion rate compare with other advertising platforms?
Most importantly, what is the quality of the leads or sales generated?
Those answers will be considerably more valuable than simply being one of the first businesses to run an ad on a new platform.
What We Will Be Watching Next
Our first experiments with ChatGPT Ads have raised more questions than they have answered, and that is precisely why we think the platform is worth testing.
Context Hints are the feature we are most interested in.
Being able to describe situations, needs and conversations rather than relying entirely on conventional targeting categories introduces a new variable into performance marketing. The important question now is whether that difference translates into better commercial outcomes.
As we continue experimenting, we will be looking closely at campaign delivery, Context Hint performance, CPCs, conversion rates, lead quality and how the platform develops.
The platform is still new. There are limitations, and there are bugs.
But there is also something genuinely different here.
And that makes ChatGPT Ads worth experimenting with.
Frequently Asked Questions About ChatGPT Ads in Cyprus
Are ChatGPT Ads available in Cyprus?
Yes. Cyprus is currently listed by OpenAI as a market where self-service access to ChatGPT Ads Manager is available. Advertisers can create and manage campaigns directly through Ads Manager.
What is the minimum budget for ChatGPT Ads in Cyprus?
The current minimum daily campaign budget for accounts using EUR is €15. The amount an advertiser should actually spend depends on the campaign objective and the amount of data required for a meaningful test.
Can you target specific cities in Cyprus with ChatGPT Ads?
Yes, during our experimentation we found city-level targeting available for Cyprus. However, the geographic targeting options we encountered were less advanced than those we are accustomed to using in Google Ads and Meta Ads.
What are Context Hints in ChatGPT Ads?
Context Hints allow advertisers to describe the conversations, needs, topics or keywords where their product or service could be relevant. They guide ChatGPT's matching systems but are not exact-match keywords or guarantees that an advertisement will appear in a particular conversation.
What information do you need to create a ChatGPT ad?
During our experimentation, the core ad creative consisted of a title, description, image and destination website.
Are ChatGPT Ads better than Google Ads or Meta Ads?
There is not enough evidence for us to make that conclusion, and the platforms serve different purposes. Google and Meta currently offer significantly more mature advertising ecosystems. What makes ChatGPT particularly interesting to us is its conversational context and Context Hints. We need campaign performance data before making meaningful comparisons about commercial results.
Should Cyprus businesses test ChatGPT Ads now?
Businesses with sufficient advertising budgets and an appetite for experimentation can consider testing the platform. We would currently treat ChatGPT Ads as an additional experimental channel rather than automatically replacing established, profitable Google or Meta campaigns.
